Tonight’s equation = A’s > O’s

I’m never going to be happy after a loss. You can always look at the good stuff that happened and try to be positive but a loss is still a loss. And it sucks.

The O’s dropped a tough one tonight at home to Oakland 6 -5. There are a couple frustrating things that came out of this one. I’ll share them and then I’ll talk about a few good things so I can go to sleep happy.

Frustrating:

- Eric Bedard’s 4th inning;

- Danys Baez giving up the 8th inning homer to Nick Swisher making it 6 – 4;

- Corey Patterson holding up as Brian Roberts scorched a ground ball past him and into center for a hit. CPatt’s holdup cost the O’s the tying run.

- Melvin Mora dropping down an inexplicable bunt with runners on 1st and 3rd, 1 out in the 9th.

- Miguel Tejada succumbing to the numbers and grounding out to end the game. the A’s knew that Tejada has had awful numbers against them, so they intentionally walked Markakis to get to him. It’s sad that the game had to end with the bases loaded and our best hitter at the plate.

Good Stuff:

- Brian Burres, great relief job;

- Brian Roberts, 3 for 5 with a HR;

- Nick Markakis, 10 game hitting streak continues;

- The O’s refusing to lose quietly tonight and coming back to make it interesting after being down 5 – 1 in the 8th. That is something that is REALLY good.

A couple more notes:

- Jay Gibbons might be injured. Supposedly he has a bad back.

- Ramon Hernandez will rehab in Frederick this week and rejoin the O’s by weeks end.

- Tomorrow’s starters will be Jeremy Guthrie for the O’s vs. Dallas Braden for the A’s. Braden was called up from AAA Sacramento to replace Rich Harden who was placed on the 15-day DL.

  • Gibbons may be injured? Isn’t that like saying Gibbons may be a baseball player?

  • I prefer: Gibbons IS a baseball player. Love the guy but how’s he ever supposed to get in a groove if he’s always getting banged up?
