Something Changed…

So much has happened since my last post!  I’ve been in Europe on my first trip abroad.  The only good thing is that the games start really late and the west coast games are still finishing in the morning.  Pretty cool actually.

Tonight the O’s rocked the Rangers 6 – 2.  Bedard pitched great and tied Mike Mussina’s franchise record with 218 K’s in a single season.  He’ll break the record his next time out.  The O’s offense hit well collectively with contributions by Tejada, Huff, and Millar leading the way.

So here’s the thing: Eric Bedard is now being generally considered as one of the best pitchers in the game.  He obviously is.  Just look at the numbers: second lowest ERA, first lowest opponents BA, first in K’s.  The transformation has been slow but at the same time I feel like it jumped out at us all the sudden.  He is just like Halladay or Santana or Haren or Beckett.  When he starts we feel like we’re going to win.  Ladies and gents: we have our Ace.

But this is obvious right?  He went from a quiet rookie to and inconsistent young starter, to a front of the rotation type of guy to an Ace.  And all the sudden every time he pitches it’s an event.  We’re GOING to win games that he starts.  O’s fans haven’t felt this way since Moose was in his prime.  It’s so exciting and gives me so much to look forward to as a fan.  A true #1 is hard to come by in baseball.  We grew our own and have a few other great arms in the wings.  Only time will tell if we can get all of our young stars to shine at once.  At least for tonight, we have much to think about and much to look forward to.
