Today the Orioles officially announced that I can make Dave Trembley/William Shatner jokes for at least one more full season!
Yes! Trembles stays on for the 2008 season after a 29-25 start to his managing career. I am very happy with this move. The guy deserves a shot and more so than the W/L record is the level of respect that he clearly has with his players. He is up front, honest, and clear as to what he expects from each player. That is the kind of guy I want managing my team. Furthermore, the guy is a winner. He plays to win games. He’s aggressive, tactical, and is not afraid to make a tough move to get the “W” even if it means taking the ball or bat out of someone’s hands. I want to give the guy a friggin’ hug. Thank you for giving a shit Dave – we appreciate it!

The story is that this guy from the Atlanta NAACP doesn’t think Vick should be suspended from the NFL for what he did. He doesn’t even think that dogfighting is that bad – it’s just like deer hunting, right? Wrong. A dog is a domesticated animal, a deer is a wild animal. Deer hunting is LEGAL, Dog fighting is ILLEGAL. In fact, deer hunting is encouraged because it controls their population. Otherwise you’d have flocks of deer just prancing across highways in droves. Deer meat is eaten, dead dogs just get buried. So in other words: NO, dog fighting is in NO way like deer hunting you dumb bastard! This guy is an idiot this R.L. White. There’s no question that the NFL will suspend him anyway (because they have to as stated in the personal conduct policy). Mr.White just used this as a convenient outlet to show how ignorant he was. Congrats!
Look, Vick screwed up. He was the financial kingpin of an interstate dogfighting operation. He killed dogs. He abused dogs. He neglected dogs. He broke the law and lied to EVERYONE about doing it. He did these things for six years. I don’t know Michael Vick as a man. I knew him as an athlete. I have no reason to think Michael Vick is a bad guy but it is now apparent that he did some very bad things. How do you hang a dog? Electrocute a dog? Slam a dog into the ground, killing it? These are awful things. He will be suspended, he will see jail time, and he will pay his debts to society. This is NOT an issue of black or white (although people say it is). If I did these horrible things I would expect to go to jail. To think anything less is expecting special treatment and to discount the lives of animals simply because the guy who killed them is a great athlete is idiotic.
America will forgive Michael Vick. But we won’t forget – and he’s never pet sitting for me.
